Safe by Design. Compliance by Choice.
We believe a home you're proud of should also be the safest place in your world. That's why we take product safety as seriously as we take our brass finishes — obsessing over the details so you don't have to.
As a certified B Corp, responsibility is baked into everything we do. From the solid brass in our hardware to the wiring in our lights, we ensure every piece meets (and often exceeds) strict UK and EU safety standards. Here is the lowdown on how we keep our hardware hazard-free.

How We Ensure Safety
Safety isn't just a checkbox for us; it's a process.
At Plank Hardware, safety is considered at every stage, from concept design through to production, in line with applicable UK and European product safety requirements. As part of our product development process, we assess intended use, reasonably foreseeable misuse, ergonomics, usability and installation requirements. Where appropriate, our products are also independently tested to help verify their safety and performance.
Our hardware is tested for structural integrity, secure fixing, finish durability, ergonomics, usability and overall safety to ensure it performs reliably throughout its intended use. We carefully select quality materials and finishes that are suited to their intended environment and take reasonable steps to minimise foreseeable hazards.
Our products are designed and manufactured to meet relevant safety requirements, including the General Product Safety Regulations 2005 in Great Britain and the General Product Safety Regulation (EU) 2023/988 for products supplied into the European market, where applicable.
Our lighting products, switches and sockets undergo rigorous electrical testing to comply with applicable electrical safety requirements, including the Low Voltage Directive (LVD) and RoHS requirements where relevant. We work with trusted suppliers and carry out quality checks throughout the design and manufacturing process to help ensure every product meets our standards for safety, quality and performance.
Safety doesn't stop once a product is launched. We continue to monitor product performance throughout its lifecycle and actively review customer feedback to support continuous improvement, product monitoring and ongoing compliance.
As a responsible manufacturer, we maintain comprehensive technical documentation, including material data sheets, test reports and supplier declarations where applicable. We regularly verify compliance with REACH, RoHS and other relevant safety requirements to help ensure our products meet required standards and are free from restricted substances. This supports product traceability, reduces environmental impact and helps maintain consistent quality. We also work closely with our suppliers to ensure materials, whether brass, aluminium or stainless steel, meet our safety and quality standards.
Every production run is subject to quality control checks to ensure products are manufactured to specification, perform as intended and maintain consistent quality. Batch traceability allows us to identify when and where a product was made, helping us investigate and resolve any issues quickly should they ever arise. If you've spotted a batch code on your packaging, that's part of our commitment to quality, traceability and continuous improvement.
