Real Home: Nana Acheampong 💁‍♀️

If you're not familiar with Nana Acheampong, you probably don't know much about fashion (no shade, sweetie 💁‍♀️). The sought-after stylist, OG blogger and SheerLuxe editor, is the epitome of a tastemaker.

Forever globe-trotting for either work or pleasure, it's no wonder that her freshly remodelled Walthamstow apartment is a curated culmination of her travels, cherished memories and objets trouvés.

We popped round to discuss Nana's desire to create a calming sanctuary, forever being Team Brass, plus how she successfully project managed an uphill renovation project.

Nana, you’re a pioneering fashion stylist and content creator. Tell us how you went about defining the aesthetic for your newly renovated home in East London?

For me, style — whether in fashion or interiors — is about storytelling. When I started renovating my home, I knew I wanted it to feel like an extension of my creative world: considered, expressive, and layered with personal meaning.

My job — and life in general — is very fast-paced, so when it came to designing my home, the main aesthetic I aimed for was calm. I wanted a space that felt like a sanctuary, somewhere I could retreat to and recharge after long days of creating and traveling.

I was drawn to a neutral, grounding palette — soft earth tones, warm woods, and natural textures that bring a sense of balance. Clean lines and open, airy spaces were key, but I didn’t want it to feel too minimal or sterile. It was important to layer in warmth through textiles, vintage finds, and personal objects that tell a story.

Ultimately, my home is a reflection of my journey. Just like my wardrobe, it’s ever-evolving, with space for experimentation, spontaneity and, most importantly, personality.

How does your home make you feel, in just three words.

Joyous, content and calm.

You opted for brass hardware and finishing touches throughout your home. Have you always been a brass girly, from your jewellery to interior details?

Absolutely! I’ve always been drawn to brass — it has this timeless warmth that instantly elevates a space or an outfit. In my jewellery, I love how it patinates over time, giving it character and a sense of history. So when it came to my home, it felt natural to incorporate brass details throughout, from hardware to lighting and decorative accents.

I think brass strikes the perfect balance between classic and contemporary. It’s luxurious without being flashy, and it pairs beautifully with the neutral, calming palette I wanted for my space.

You’ve project managed a considerable kitchen renovation in recent months, publicly sharing the trials and tribulations that came with it. What are three bits of advice you’d offer someone in similar shoes, about to undertake a sizable renovation project?

Plan, but stay flexible. No matter how much you prepare, things will go off track at some point — whether it’s delays, unexpected costs, or decisions that don’t pan out the way you imagined. Having a solid plan is essential, but so is the ability to pivot and problem-solve without losing your mind!

Choose your team wisely. Whether it’s builders, designers, or suppliers, work with people who not only understand your vision but also communicate well and respect your time. A great contractor is worth their weight in gold, and trust me, clear communication can make or break your experience.

Trust your gut. There were so many moments where I second-guessed myself because of conflicting advice or the sheer feeling of being overwhelmed with all of the decision-making. But every time I stuck with my instincts, I was happy with the outcome. Everyone will have an opinion, but at the end of the day, you’re the one living in it. If something feels right, go for it.

What interior design resources (websites, designers, creators) did you look to for inspiration when creating your home?

Pinterest & Instagram – Honestly, these were my biggest mood board tools. I followed hashtags like #modernrustic, #warmminimalism, and #industrialchic to refine my vision.

Designers & Creators – I’ve always loved the work of Athena Calderone and No.17 House, @debeauvoirhome and @passe_the_store.

Publications – I spent hours scrolling through Arch Digest, Dezeen, and The Modern House for ideas, especially when it came to materials and architectural details.

YouTube & TikTok Watching real-time renovation diaries from interior creators gave me so much insight into what actually works in a home, beyond just looking pretty in a photo.

That said, I was also really conscious of making sure my home felt like me rather than a carbon copy of something I’d seen online. Inspiration is great but, at the end of the day, I wanted a space that reflected my personality and lifestyle, not just trends.
